The Department of Art, Theatre and Film Studies and the Department of Musicology of the National Association of Doctoral Students, in cooperation with Széchenyi István University, announce the 3rd edition of the DOSZ ARTS academic conference.

The Processing of the Past in the Arts
The conference will take place on September 25–26, 2026, at Kapcsolatok Háza in Esztergom.
The event aims to provide a platform for young researchers, doctoral students, artists and creators who are investigating various forms of artistic engagement with the past.
The organisers welcome presentations that examine how the past is manifested in theatre, film, music, dance, visual arts, literature, circus arts, performance art or other artistic disciplines, whether through historical, theoretical, analytical or practice-based approaches.
Possible topics may include memory, trauma and artistic representation; theatrical, filmic, musical or visual interpretations of historical events; tradition, heritage and reinterpretation; adaptation, remake, reenactment and restaging; the relationship between the past and identity; the use of archives and document-based art; the role of art institutions, collections and museums in processing the past; digital archives, artificial intelligence and the interpretation of the past; as well as the aesthetics of the past, including nostalgia, reconstruction, irony and critique.
The conference adopts a multidisciplinary approach. Applications are welcome from doctoral students and early-career researchers in the fields of art history and theory, theatre studies, film studies, musicology, literary studies, dance studies, circus studies, performing arts, interdisciplinary arts research and other related disciplines.
Presentation proposals may be submitted in Hungarian or English, with a length of 1,500–2,000 characters.
Applications should include the presenter’s name, institutional affiliation, doctoral school or research/artistic affiliation, presentation title, abstract and 3–5 keywords.
