ON REGIONAL ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS STUDIES

the Hungarian Regional Science Association.
The workshop is financed by the project titled as Smart Communities, No. SKHU/1601/4.1/210.
The workshop is open for PhD students and early career researchers from the Central-Eastern European region, working within the fields of regional studies, rural development, economics and business administration. It offers specific training and provides an opportunity for interaction amongst senior and young researchers.
Important deadlines:
Registration and submission of the abstract: 7 July 2017
Notification about abstract acceptance: 14 July 2017
Submission of the full paper: 1 September 2017
Payment of reviewing cost: 1 September 2017
- Participation at the workshop (including accommodation and catering) is free of charge but registration is accepted only with presentation and paper submission.
- Organizers will send notification about the acceptance of the topic submitted for presentation.
- One registration per paper is accepted. Co-authors may attend the event on their own costs. In this regard, please contact the organizers.
- Distance-participation is also possible with submitting poster and transferring the reviewing cost.
Travel costs and reviewing cost (30 EUR/paper) should be covered by the participants (bank account details for transferring the reviewing cost will be communicated in the 2nd call for papers). The reviewing cost covers the fee of the double-blind review. All submitted and accepted papers will undergo a double-blind review process before publication in the conference CD proceeding with ISBN. All the approved papers will be published on the CD. According to the evaluation of the session chairs after the workshop, some of the works presented at the event will be selected for publication in peer-reviewed journals to be published in 2018. Maximum two papers per participant could be submitted and the maximum number of authors per paper is four.

Participants will be asked to present their paper in 10 minutes at the workshop that will be followed by specific questions from the dedicated discussant and the participants in preferably 5 minutes. Papers will be reviewed by junior and senior discussants as each paper will be assigned to a senior discussant (session chair) and a junior discussant (one of the participating PhD students) to effectively give and receive feedbacks.
The working language of the workshop is English.
Applicants must submit a max. 400 words abstract with keywords, JEL codes but without tables or graphs, in plain text. Abstracts should focus on the own contribution (research question, arguments, methods and results).
Papers are welcome particularly (but not exclusively) from the following themes:
- smart cities, smart communities
- resiliency at different territorial levels
- urban – rural dichotomy
- development path designation, lock-in, new economic geography
- the geography and challenges of peripheries
- territorial competitiveness and place-based development policies
- new methods and approaches in local economic development
- contribution of local actors, community development
- enterprises and locations in the globalised economy
- cross-border initiatives and their potential
- tourism development and alternative practices
- migration and local human resources
